Lesley & Darren Appleyard - Bailey

I had an uneventful first pregnancy with low lying placenta diagnosed at my 19th week scan. Another scan was scheduled for 32 weeks although at 30 weeks I had 2 days stay in hospital with extreme fundus pain. The scan was brought forward and nothing was visible, it was diagnosed as gastric pain. One day after my due date at a routine antenatal appointment the midwife carried out a "stretch and sweep" to help get me started. Early next morning the pop I felt was heavy bleeding. We went straight to hospital., luckily we live very close. Within 20 minutes of arriving I was in theatre and Bailey was born by emergency ceasarean. His heartrate had gone down to 42BPM. He was taken to SCBU where he remained for 12 days. He needed a blood transfusion and his kidneys failed. He fought hard, it was heartbreaking to watch what he went through, but he made it. He is now thriving, a gorgeous, happy, smiling miracle baby.
